Top Catch With Mooloolaba Fishery Nomination

AFTER a devastating year for Queensland fisheries that saw the industry almost wiped out by the pandemic, a Sunshine Coast business has finally received some good news. Walker Seafoods at Mooloolaba has been named as a state finalist for the fourth time in the annual delicious.

Harvey Norman Produce Awards, which recognise the best and most innovative producers and produce from across Australia. Judging everything from crab and cream to beef and berries, the competition named Walker Seafoods state winners for their MSC certified bigeye tuna, alongside other victors, including fresh bamboo shoots from Big Heart Bamboo and finger limes from Green Valley Fingerlimes.

“It’s very exciting,” Walker Seafoods co-owner Heidi Walker said. “delicious. does a great job of promoting Australian produce and the people who produce it and we feel honoured that the chefs who judged felt that our bigeye was worthy of being considered the best in the state,” Ms Walker said. The fishery has lost about 80 per cent of its export market as a result of COVID border closures. It used to fly fish to restaurants around the world, but is now unable to do so due to minimal and very expensive overseas flights.
